Steep coastal cliffs, old boat sheds and fascinating geological formations help make Second Valley unforgettable. The area's protected waters provide scuba divers with memorable experiences as they encounter fur seals and leafy seadragons.

Located 91 kilometres south of Adelaide, Second Valley is divided into two parts - the old mill on the main road and, down the valley to the sea, a tiny coastal port reminiscent of a Cornish fishing village.

Second Valley is a strategically located base from which to visit the many sights and attractions such as Kangaroo Island, Deep Creek Conservation Park, Parsons Beach & Waitpinga, Ingalalla & Hindmarsh Waterfalls, Glacier Rock, The Bluff, Granite Island, Myponga Reservoir, the World Heritage Listed Coorong and more...

Natural wonders
Bird Life
Wonder at the large Sulphur Crested Cockatoos that descend on our front balcony to feed on the provided seed and fly around the district. Listen with delight to their raucus screeching in the mornings and at roosting time. Marvel at the colours of the Galahs and their screeching to a different tune. Awaken to the beautiful calls of our resident magpies and to their magnificent warbling on moonlit nights and at other times. Rejoice in the endangered White Tailed Black Cockatoos thrilling us with their visits. Identify the smaller corella among the sulphur cresteds. Observe the Red Throated Wattle Bird flitting between the trees making their unique sharp call competing with the migrating Yellow Honey Eaters for the blossom nectar. The cheeky Willy Wag Tail will always be there to cheer our spirits and glimpses of the Superb Blue Wren, Thrushes and Finches will help complete the magic of your walks. Colourful birds to capture your imagination and leave an indelible impression will be the Adelaide Rosella, Port Lincoln Parrot and Swift Green Parrot.

Fauna
See the cute penguins of Granite Island and Kangaroo Island, our nearby fur seal colony and maybe seals frolicking in our bay near the jetty and rocks. Dolphins, rays, echidna, possums, friendly blue-tongue and shingleback lizards and maybe a whale or more with calves at hand.

Look out for the kangaroos and their joeys that live in the hills, valleys and paddocks that adjoin us in Second Valley.  You might see them munching on the pastures or coming down to our creek for a drink. Keep your eyes peeled for the many kangaroos that make the surrounding reserve of the Myponga Reservoir their home as you are driving through. They also feed on the hillside and flats around Lady Bay. If kangaroos are your thing, a short drive from Second Valley to Deep Creek Conservation Park will reward you amply as kangaroos abound.

Flora
Observe magnificent Eucalypts with their awe-inspiring blossoms, beautiful Wattle, stunning Bottle-Brush and Sentinel Yacca. Different seasons produce a variety of wild flowers such as white and green lilies in the creeks and waterways, purple carpets of Salvation Jane (Paterson's Curse) in the fields, yellow and green sour-sobs, green pastures and more.
